Take your game to the next level with grip socks!
We've been seeing it on professional football fields for a while, and now that it's becoming more common on amateur football fields as well, it's a great time to explore why grip socks are winning the hearts of football players. The experts at Voetbalshop are happy to explain this in detail!
The internet is full of them these days – grip socks. What exactly are they and why are they so popular? The answer to these questions will be addressed in this blog by highlighting the biggest benefits of playing with grip socks. Check out all the grip socks here.
Benefit 1: More control in your boots for increased speed
Grip socks help you gain more control in your boots. I think everyone knows that annoying feeling when it seems like you're "sliding" in your own boots. This often happens with new or slippery socks. With grip socks, this is a thing of the past. The grip elements on the bottom of the socks keep your foot in place, sticking to the sole of the boot. This prevents slipping and makes you more agile during actions, for example. Because you move less inside your boot, you're quicker off the mark. So, grip socks also help improve your acceleration!
Benefit 2: Fewer blisters and ankle injuries
Wearing grip socks not only benefits your performance but also helps reduce injuries. For example, grip socks prevent the development of blisters. They ensure that you no longer slide in your boots, which reduces friction between your foot and the (often new) boot, preventing blisters from forming (except in special cases). In a similar way, grip socks help reduce ankle injuries. The compression promotes optimal blood circulation, leading to better recovery and support for the muscles in your ankles and feet. Additionally, the grip in the boots prevents the ankle from compensating for slipping, providing more support and stability to the ankle.
Okay, I want to buy grip socks, but how do you wear grip socks during a match?
There are two ways to wear grip socks nowadays. The first method is the least common and (in our opinion, the least comfortable), which is wearing grip socks over your football socks (so, two pairs of socks). When you wear grip socks this way, some of the previously mentioned benefits are reduced. This is because your football socks don't have grip elements, which could cause you to slide inside your grip socks. For this reason, we do not recommend this way of wearing grip socks.
The next (and in our opinion, the best) way to wear your grip socks is by cutting your football socks. For the best result, cut the bottom of your football socks (just above the ankle) so that your sock becomes a "sleeve." This way, you can pull your grip socks underneath this sleeve and have direct contact with your boot. Since you are cutting the socks, it’s important to know that the lifespan of the socks will be drastically reduced. To minimize this process, we recommend playing with sock wrap. A sock wrap connects your grip sock to your football sock in a natural way without cutting off circulation to your leg. In addition to looking great, it also extends the lifespan of your socks. This is because it doesn’t have strong adhesive that could cause the seams of the sock to tear apart. Another (and perhaps easier) way to wear grip socks is by purchasing a "sleeve''. This way, you don't have to cut your own socks, and the sleeve will have a longer lifespan.
