5 tips for maintaining your football boots!
Let’s say you bought a brand-new pair of football boots a year ago, and they feel fantastic. But then, suddenly, they break. How could that happen? There’s a good chance it’s because the football boots weren’t properly maintained. We’ve got a few tips to help extend the life of your football boots.
Oiling leather football boots helps to extend their lifespan.
1. Clean your boots immediately after your match or training.
Immediately take your boots out of your bag and clean them with lukewarm water and a brush. Use a soft brush to remove all the sand, clay, or mud from your boots to prevent any damage. Do this for both the upper and the sole. Use a soft damp cloth to remove stubborn stains. The laces can be put in the washing machine as long as you place them in a laundry bag. Don’t put the laces loose in the machine, and never use detergent, as it can damage the stitching. If you're playing on artificial grass, make sure to remove the artificial turf granules from the boots, even from between the sole and the upper.
2. Let your football boots dry properly.
Never place your football boots on or under a heater to dry them. The materials of your boots can dry out if they dry too quickly under high temperatures, which can cause them to lose their shape and become uncomfortable. Instead, insert newspapers into your boots to help absorb moisture. Another option is to use a shoe dryer. Be sure to remove the insoles so they can also dry properly.
3. Thoroughly check your football boots.
Inspecting your football boots and replacing worn-out parts helps extend the lifespan of your boots.
4. Condition your football boots (only for leather football boots).
Leather football boots require extra care. Use leather grease to keep the leather supple and prevent cracks or tears in the material. Condition your boots once every 3 weeks. Don’t do it too often, as over-conditioning can cause the leather to stretch.
5. How to make your football boots last longer?
Typically, your football boots last for one season, but with proper maintenance, they can last longer. It’s important to regularly apply the tips mentioned earlier. Using a shoehorn helps maintain the fit. Don’t wear your football boots outside the field, as this will cause wear on the studs. Use a shoe bag for your boots and wear slides instead.
